Looking for a good way to celebrate President’s Day? Take a trip through our CultureGrams States Edition Washington, D.C. report. The┬ánation’s capital was named after George Washington (and Christopher Columbus) and is home to the National Mall. Located in the middle of downtown Washington, D.C., this national park was set aside as an area for national remembrance and features memorials commemorating some of our early presidents. The Washington Monument stands close to the center of the mall, between the steps of the Capitol Building and the Lincoln Memorial. Visitors to the monument can climb all 897 steps or ride the elevator to the top to see the spectacular view. The Lincoln Memorial, where Martin Luther King Jr. gave his “I Have a Dream” speech, houses a 19-foot-tall marble statue of Lincoln.
